Texas A&M Welcomes Bucky McMillan as New Basketball Coach
Bucky McMillan has been appointed as the new head coach for Texas A&M basketball, taking over for Buzz Williams.
Texas A&M has officially appointed Bucky McMillan as its new head basketball coach, following the departure of Buzz Williams to Maryland. Under McMillan’s leadership, Samford had a successful run, going 99-52 over five seasons, culminating in an NCAA Tournament appearance.
“We’re incredibly excited about Bucky coming to Aggieland to lead our men’s basketball program,” said Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts. “He’s an innovator as a coach, and he has a smart and analytics-driven approach to the game…”
McMillan, who has been a prominent figure at Samford, brings his innovative, up-tempo offensive strategy, dubbed ‘Buckyball’, to Texas A&M. His energetic style is expected to revitalize the Aggies, who have maintained consistent postseason appearances over recent years.
During his tenure, Samford achieved a notable 22-11 season, with aspirations of even greater success under McMillan’s guidance. The program’s recent accomplishments reflect his capability to build competitive teams from the ground up.
“I couldn’t be more excited to wake up to the reality of being the head basketball coach at Texas A&M. I won’t rest until we get the Aggies playing at a championship level year-in and year-out,” McMillan expressed in a press release.
As he prepares for his new role, McMillan will need to build on the success achieved before him, further strengthening a program that has shown considerable promise in the competitive landscape of college basketball.
