Tennis legend Billie Jean King made history as the first female athlete to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. King’s star was unveiled with the assistance of Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis. For years, the Hollywood Walk of Fame recognized only celebrities from film, television, music, and radio. In 2021, it introduced a Sports Entertainment category, and King, a 39-time Grand Slam champion, became the first woman honored in this new category.
“The important thing is, I don’t want to be the last one,” King expressed during her speech.
Johnson praised King for her commitment to social change, emphasizing that she consistently uses her platform to advocate for what’s right. King’s star is the 2,807th added to the Walk of Fame, located at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine.
Fans can now visit this tribute not just to her legendary career but also to her impactful legacy.
