Ta'Niya Latson Joins South Carolina, Adding Top Scorer to Team
Latson, a transfer from Florida State, brings her remarkable scoring ability to the Gamecocks.
Ta’Niya Latson, last season’s leading scorer in women’s college basketball, has transferred to South Carolina. She announced her decision on social media, hoping to provide a significant offensive boost for the Gamecocks, who recently faced a tough loss to UConn in the national championship game.
Latson, who played her first three seasons at Florida State, averaged 25.2 points this past year. After entering the transfer portal following the Seminoles’ elimination from the NCAA Tournament, speculation about her next move began, with South Carolina emerging as a front-runner.
Raven Johnson, Latson’s high school teammate, has publicly expressed her excitement and eagerness to recruit Latson to Columbia. Johnson stated, “I’d tell her, let’s run it back.”
With Latson joining South Carolina, the team addresses its previous struggles with a lack of scoring options. Last season, Joyce Edwards led the Gamecocks with just 12.7 points per game, compared to Latson’s nearly double that figure.
The addition of Latson positions South Carolina as a dominant contender next season, potentially securing another championship.
