Lakers Suffer Defeat After Doncic's Ejection Against Thunder
The Los Angeles Lakers faced a significant defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder after Luka Doncic was ejected late in the game.
In a tense matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the game took a dramatic turn when Luka Doncic was ejected. The Lakers were leading 108-107 with 7:40 left when Doncic received his second technical foul, resulting in his exit from the court.
Following his departure, the Thunder dominated the rest of the game, outscoring the Lakers 29-12 to secure a 136-120 victory on Tuesday evening.
Doncic had contributed 23 points before his ejection, which was sparked by what appeared to be a confrontation with a fan.
Crew chief Tony Brothers stated that Doncic “looked directly at an official and used vulgar language.”
In the postgame press session, Doncic insisted his actions were not directed towards the referees, stating, “nothing to do with the refs.”
On the other side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with an impressive 42 points, while Jalen Williams added 26.
Oklahoma City is closing in on clinching the league’s best record with just three games remaining, having increased their lead to two games over the Cleveland Cavaliers and setting a franchise record for single-season victories.
For the Lakers, LeBron James netted 28 points, and Austin Reaves contributed 24.
Next, the Lakers will face the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, marking Doncic’s first encounter with them since his trade for Anthony Davis on February 2.
The Thunder concluded the first half leading 80-72, showcasing an impressive field goal percentage of 64.7%. This figure matched the fourth highest scoring total in a half for the Thunder.
Doncic’s deep three-pointer gave the Lakers an 88-86 lead late in the third, although they entered the final quarter only narrowly ahead.
