On Wednesday night, Miami Marlins prospect Emaarion Boyd made headlines with an impressive performance in which he stole six bases during the High-A Deloit Sky Carp’s 10-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels, without recording a hit.
Boyd utilized various methods to reach base, including walks and a hit by pitch, successfully stealing second and third every time he got on. His six steals mark him as the first minor league player in over 20 years to achieve this feat without making a hit, according to the Associated Press.
Despite having a shot to steal a seventh base following his second walk in the ninth inning, Boyd expressed that he was feeling tight about his missed chance. “I thought it would be even more crazy if I got eight,” he remarked to the AP. “I wish I could have had two more. It would have been really crazy then.”
Boyd, who was drafted in the 11th round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, was later acquired by the Marlins. After the first five games with the Sky Carp, he is batting .200 with one RBI. His record now shows a total of seven stolen bases.
