Tiger Woods' Status for the 2025 Masters: What to Expect

Tiger Woods, a five-time champion, faces uncertainty about his participation in the 2025 Masters due to ongoing recovery from injury.

For the fifth time in the last eleven Masters tournaments, Tiger Woods will not be playing. The five-time champion is sidelined this year as he works to recover from a ruptured Achilles. This injury came to light during the Players Championship week.

Woods was gearing up for the opening major of the year when he faced this setback. His last competitive appearance was in the inaugural season of his golf simulator league, TGL. Initially, Woods was set to participate in the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines but had to withdraw shortly after, as he was still mourning his mother’s passing.

His most recent PGA Tour appearance was during the 2024 Open, where he unfortunately did not make the cut.

Last year, Woods made history again at the Masters by making the cut, extending his streak of consecutive cuts at Augusta National to 24. This surpassed the previous record he shared with legends Fred Couples and Gary Player.

He played in the final round of the 2024 Masters alongside amateur Neal Shipley, finishing last amongst those who made the cut.

Since suffering significant injuries in a car accident in February 2021, Woods has participated in ten official PGA Tour events, including his return at the 2022 Masters, where he surprised everyone with a 71 before falling behind over the weekend. In 2023, Woods again made the cut but withdrew before the third round due to an ankle injury.

At 49, he hasn’t played a weekend tournament outside of Augusta since the 2023 Genesis Invitational, where he finished tied for 45th.
