Nikola Jokic Joins Elite Company with Triple-Double Averages
Denver's Nikola Jokic has made history by averaging a triple-double this season, becoming only the third player in NBA history to achieve this feat.
Nikola Jokic will average a triple-double for the season, placing him among the elite players in NBA history. This milestone became evident on Friday night as Jokic secured his fourth assist in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
This achievement marks him as the third player in NBA history to accomplish this feat, joining the ranks of Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson.
With 700 assists so far this season, Jokic is on track to maintain an assist average of at least 10.0 per game.
Notably, Russell Westbrook managed to achieve a triple-double average four times throughout his career, while Oscar Robertson did it in the 1961-62 season. Jokic also tallied his 34th triple-double of the season during the game against the Grizzlies.
Furthermore, Jokic is anticipated to surpass his previous scoring record, with an objective of reaching at least a 30.0 scoring average, which would be a historic accomplishment matching only Westbrook and Robertson.
“When you have a guy like Jokic, who generates so much offense for his teammates, everyone’s going to have really good looks if you don’t do the right things,” noted Minnesota coach Chris Finch.
This season, Jokic is not just aiming for assist averages but also setting career-highs in scoring, rebounds, and three-point shooting, showcasing his well-rounded game as he aims for another MVP title.
