The list of golf’s career grand slam winners is extremely elite. For 25 years, this list featured five legends: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Recently, it welcomed a sixth member when Rory McIlroy clinched his first green jacket, completing the career grand slam in his 11th attempt at Augusta National Golf Club.
McIlroy’s early career suggested that his entry into this exclusive club was inevitable, yet more than a decade without a Masters win turned into a considerable weight each April at Augusta.
The 2025 Masters felt different for McIlroy. Having won twice earlier in the season, he was in a confident place leading into the tournament. This victory came after a dramatic and emotionally charged final round that saw various ups and downs.
As he walked towards Butler Cabin, aware that he became the sixth player to achieve the grand slam, he was met with an emotional outpouring from both fans and fellow golfers.
One prominent absence was Tiger Woods, who congratulated McIlroy despite not participating in the tournament due to injury, making it clear that his achievements in the game are recognized and valued.
“Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory. Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you’re a part of history. Proud of you!”

Rory’s triumph was acknowledged across the board. Fellow competitor Justin Rose provided a classy acknowledgment, expressing appreciation for McIlroy’s accomplishments despite his own setbacks.
Phil Mickelson also offered hearty congratulations, emphasizing the significance of McIlroy winning the Masters and joining the ranks of champions.
Back home, celebrations erupted in Rory’s hometown club of Holywood, marking a legendary moment in his career and golf history.
