Kris Bryant’s ongoing issues with his back have again landed him on the injured list. The Rockies announced that Bryant will be sidelined for a minimum of ten days due to lumbar degenerative disc disease. No timeline for his recovery has been provided, nor are there details about his treatment plan.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition arises when “the cushioning in your spine begins to wear away,” leading to potential severe pain in the neck and back.
Bryant has had his fair share of back troubles in the past, having missed significant time with a strain in 2022 and again in 2024. During the term of his seven-year, $182 million contract, he has played only a fraction of the games, managing to hit a disappointing .250/.332/.381 with just 17 home runs over three seasons.
In a corresponding move, Braxton Fulford was called up to replace Bryant on the roster; he was performing phenomenally in Triple-A with a batting average of .395.
As of now, the Rockies are struggling at the bottom of the standings with a record of 3-12.
