Vice President Mishaps with Championship Trophy During Ohio State's White House Visit

Ohio State visits the White House to celebrate their 2024 national title, but the moment takes an unexpected turn when the Vice President drops the championship trophy.

Ohio State traveled to the White House on Monday to celebrate its 2024 national title win, and everything seemed to be going well until Vice President JD Vance accidentally dropped the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy while trying to pick it up.

Vance, a self-proclaimed Ohio State superfan and 2009 alumnus, attempted to grab the trophy from its base, which resulted in the base separating and dropping to the floor. Star running back TreVeyon Henderson quickly intervened to save the trophy.

To be fair, the trophy can be tricky, as the oblong golden piece is designed to be removed from its black base. Vance was clearly just excited to hold it.

Thankfully, the trophy didn’t appear to sustain any damage. Vance humorously explained later that he did not want anyone else to take the trophy, hence his mishap.

After being inaugurated earlier that day, Vance humorously mentioned wanting to skip the ceremony to attend the championship game, which Ohio State won against Notre Dame.
