Suns Center Jusuf Nurkić Discusses Challenges with Coach Mike Budenholzer
Jusuf Nurkić opens up about his lack of connection with Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer as he remains benched since early January.
Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić has been sidelined since January 7 due to being benched. He expressed concerning thoughts about his relationship with head coach Mike Budenholzer, stating,
“We don’t have a relationship, so it’s fine. For me, just be a pro and do the best I can. Work and stay ready for whatever might be, but there is no chaos or bringing that to this team. They already have plenty of it. Trying to be as professional as I can and work my ass off for something else.”
Budenholzer added,
“It’s never easy in this league. He hasn’t played. I’m sure he’s frustrated. I respect that.”
This season, Nurkić has averaged 8.6 points and 9.2 rebounds across 25 games. His role has changed since being replaced in the starting lineup, while also facing increased competition after the Suns acquired Nick Richards from Charlotte.
As the team stands at 23-21, occupying the eighth seed in the Western Conference, Nurkić remains without game time, despite the Suns winning most of their recent matches.
