Virgil van Dijk Extends Liverpool Contract for Two More Years Alongside Mohamed Salah
Virgil van Dijk's renewed commitment to Liverpool ensures he will stay until the approach of his 36th birthday, following in the footsteps of teammate Mohamed Salah. This strategic move solidifies key components of the Liverpool squad as they aim for further titles.
Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool, ending the uncertainty regarding the club captain’s future at Anfield. The 33-year-old was one of three key players whose contracts were set to expire at the season’s end, now following Mohamed Salah in securing a two-year extension.
“It was always Liverpool,” said Van Dijk. “That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan, and it was always Liverpool. There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things; it gives me a great feeling.”
Although he turns 34 in July, Van Dijk remains one of the premier center-backs, consistently contributing to Liverpool’s significant push towards the Premier League title this season. His new deal sends a strong message of intent from the champions-in-waiting, particularly as both he and Salah anticipate a “big summer” at Anfield, aimed at bolstering the squad further.
