Memphis Player PJ Haggerty Joins the Transfer Portal
Haggerty, who had an outstanding season, is now available for acquisition by other programs.
On Thursday, Memphis standout PJ Haggerty entered the transfer portal. Haggerty was named the American Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and earned Second Team AP All-American honors this past season.
In a record-breaking year, he guided Memphis to 29 victories, their most since the 2012-13 season, culminating in both regular season and AAC tournament titles. Despite a fifth seed in the NCAA Tournament, their journey ended in the first round after a defeat to the Colorado State Rams.
Haggerty stood out as the nation’s third-leading scorer with an average of 21.7 points per game, maintaining a 36.4% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc. He led the AAC in playing time as well. He now looks to join a new program after short stays at TCU and Tulsa.
Replacing Haggerty’s contributions will be a significant challenge for head coach Penny Hardaway and his team, but they have already made strides in recruitment this offseason, bringing in four promising players including Zachary Davis from South Carolina. Other additions include Quante Berry from Temple and Julius Thedford from Western Kentucky, plus Ashton Hardaway, Penny’s son, who returns to Memphis after one season at St. Mary’s.
