Concacaf announced on Thursday that Canada coach Jesse Marsch has been suspended for two matches following his red card incident during the Nations League finals held in March against the U.S. men’s national team.
Marsch received red card for a confrontation with a match official after he entered the field during the second half of Canada’s victory over the USMNT by a score of 2-1. Following this incident, the confederation notified that he would be observing the next games from the stands as a consequence of the disciplinary review by Concacaf.
“The Disciplinary Committee has imposed a one-match suspension on Mr. Marsch for unacceptable conduct towards the match officials and for delaying the restart of the match by refusing to leave the field of play,” stated Concacaf, elaborating on the disciplinary action. Additionally, it stated that any future infractions may result in more severe penalties.
Marsch will now miss the opening two matches for Canada in the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup, set to begin in June, where Canada’s first match will be against Honduras on June 17 at Vancouver’s BC Place, followed by a match against Curacao on June 21 in Houston’s Shell Energy Stadium.
