Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Faces One-Game Suspension After Social Media Outburst
Jazz Chisholm, second baseman for the New York Yankees, received a one-game ban for criticizing an umpire via social media after his ejection during a recent game against the Rays.
Jazz Chisholm, the second baseman for the New York Yankees, faced a one-game suspension due to an outburst on social media following his ejection from a recent game against the Tampa Bay Rays. After disputing a strikeout call made by umpire John Bacon, Chisholm took to Twitter to express his frustration, saying:
“Not even [freaking] close!!!!!”
This tweet was subsequently deleted. The MLB announced Chisholm’s suspension for violating the league’s social media policy, which does not allow players to disparage umpires online. Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Chisholm plans to appeal the decision and will still play the following day against the Rays.
During a recent interview, Chisholm shared his regret about losing his temper, admitting that while he felt wronged by the call, he must maintain his composure for the sake of the team.
As of now, Chisholm has recorded a .176 batting average with 6 home runs and 4 stolen bases this season, contributing an estimated 1.0 win above replacement since joining the Yankees last summer.
