Austin Wynns, catcher for the Cincinnati Reds, achieved a significant milestone by recording a six-hit game against the Baltimore Orioles during a dominant 24-2 victory. This accomplishment made him the fifth player in franchise history to reach such a feat, joining notable players like Tony Cuccinello, Ernie Lombardi, Walker Cooper, and Phil Ervin.
Wynns initiated the scoring with a run-driving single in the second inning and capped it with a three-run home run in the ninth. After the game, Wynns expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a big-league game. We took it to them. We knew they were flat, and we just kept on going.” He added that his performance was about capitalizing on the opposing team’s struggles in pitching. His impressive performance came as he has been splitting time behind the plate while Tyler Stephenson recovers from an oblique injury.
The Reds’ victory improved their record to 11-11 on the season, while the Orioles fell to 9-12. Additionally, Wynns’s six-hit game is only the fourth recorded in the past five years, with the others belonging to notable players including Shohei Ohtani.
