Thunder Triumph Over Grizzlies in Historic Playoff Victory

In a dominating performance, the Oklahoma City Thunder achieved a remarkable 51-point win against the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA playoffs, marking it as the fifth-largest margin in postseason history.

The Oklahoma City Thunder crushed the Memphis Grizzlies with a score of 131-80 in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series, achieving the fifth-largest victory margin in NBA postseason history.

Jalen Williams contributed 20 points, while Chet Holmgren recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Thunder, who finished the regular season with a remarkable 68-14 record, showed they deserved their No. 1 seed.

In this game, Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league’s scoring champion averaging nearly 33 points a game, scored only 15. However, the team shot an impressive 50.5% from the field.

For Memphis, Ja Morant managed 17 points with a shooting accuracy of 35%. Jaren Jackson Jr., noted for his regular season average of over 22 points, struggled to score just 4 points on 2-for-13 shooting. Marvin Bagley III also accounted for 17 points, but the Grizzlies collectively shot only 34.4%.

Historically, there have been only two playoff margins exceeding 58 points: the Denver Nuggets against the New Orleans Pelicans in 2009 and the Minneapolis Lakers vs. St. Louis Hawks in 1956.

The Los Angeles Lakers won by 56 points against the Golden State Warriors in 1973, while the Chicago Bulls defeated the Milwaukee Bucks by 54 in 2015.

The Thunder had their lead well established by the second quarter.

This game marked Memphis’s first playoff appearance under interim coach Tuomas Iisalo, who had coached the team through just nine regular-season games.

The teams are set to meet again for Game 2 on Tuesday.
