Justin Thomas Eyes Major Contention After Stellar Putting Performance

With his best putting game in hand, Justin Thomas shows promise for returning to the upper echelons of golf, as he preps for the upcoming majors.

Justin Thomas has demonstrated an impressive improvement in his game, especially in his putting technique, which may propel him back to the forefront of competitive golf. After a pattern of near misses since his last major win in 2022, Thomas finally secured victory at the RBC Heritage with a flawless performance at Harbour Town Golf Links.

His newfound prowess on the greens is credited to a conversation with fellow tour player Xander Schauffele, where they focused on the fundamentals of putting. Thomas remarked:

“I called Xander at the end of last year because I think he’s one of the best putters in fundamentals.”

Translation: “I reached out to Xander to pick his brain about putting because I recognized his excellence in that area.”

This shift in focus has shown tangible results, pushing him up the ranks in strokes gained putting, dramatically changing his standing on the Tour. Through ten tournaments, he currently leads in birdies, showcasing a potential return to his best form.

For Thomas, fixing his driver performance is the next hurdle to tackle as he aims for success at major championships, particularly at courses unfriendly to those without potent drives. His journey continues as he prepares for Quail Hollow next month.
