Boston Celtics' Payton Pritchard Named NBA Sixth Man of the Year
Payton Pritchard has been awarded the 2024-25 NBA Sixth Man of the Year title, making him the fourth player in Celtics history to receive this honor.
Payton Pritchard has won the NBA’s 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year award, receiving 82 first-place votes, the league announced Tuesday. Pritchard is now the fourth Boston Celtic to win the award, following Kevin McHale (who won twice), Bill Walton, and Malcolm Brogdon. The trophy is named after John Havlicek, a Celtics legend.
The Pistons’ Malik Beasley finished second with 13 first-place votes. Unlike recent trends, Pritchard’s performance stood out; although he started only three of the 80 games he played this season, he established himself as one of the top reserves in the league, contributing 14 points per game with impressive shooting percentages.
His role was crucial for the Celtics, especially during tough stretches when the team needed a spark, significantly helping them as they aim to defend their championship title.
