Cavaliers Secure 2-0 Lead Against the Heat in Playoff Series

The Cavaliers fought hard to maintain their lead against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

In a thrilling playoff matchup, Donovan Mitchell shone for the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 30 points, with a critical 17 of those coming in the fourth quarter, leading them to a 121-112 win over the Miami Heat. This victory marks a significant advance, giving the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

The top-seeded Cavaliers set an NBA playoff record by scoring 11 three-pointers in the second quarter, totaling 22 for the game. Despite their strong performance, the Heat mounted a comeback in the second half, prompting a tense conclusion.

Tyler Herro was the standout for Miami, contributing 33 points. The Heat are set to host Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Cavaliers had established a 19-point lead late in the third quarter; however, Miami surged back, narrowing the gap to 105-103 with just over three minutes remaining.

Mitchell also recorded six rebounds and six assists, playing a pivotal role. Following a surge that saw the Cavaliers score their next eight points via two crucial three-pointers, they regained some separation.

Evan Mobley added 20 points, while Darius Garland contributed 19 for the Cavaliers. Miami initially had a 16-7 lead before the Cavaliers rallied to take a 25-24 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Cleveland maintained a slight edge before taking charge with a significant 17-4 run spurred by impressive shooting from both Max Strus and Sam Merrill.

Despite some anxious moments, the Cavaliers held on to their lead resulting from De’Andre Hunter’s dunk which brought their advantage to 93-74 late in the third quarter. Miami’s Davion Mitchell helped bring the team back within two baskets as the game approached its conclusion.
