In a blockbuster move, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up during the opening night of the 2025 NFL Draft with the Cleveland Browns to secure the No. 2 overall pick. The Jaguars selected Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter with this pick, marking a significant acquisition under the new general manager James Gladstone.
The Browns received the fifth overall pick, along with a second-round pick (No. 36 overall), a fourth-round pick (No. 126 overall), and Jacksonville’s 2026 first-round pick. Additionally, the Jaguars will obtain Cleveland’s fourth-round pick (No. 104 overall) and a sixth-round pick (No. 200 overall).
This trade is historic as it marks the first time since 2023 that a team has dealt into the top three on draft day, reminiscent of the 2017 NFL Draft when the Bears moved up one spot with the 49ers to select Mitchell Trubisky.
Gladstone expressed his desire for bold moves, stating: “One of the trademarks of our leadership group is when there’s an opportunity to be bold, we won’t flinch.” He has clearly been eyeing this move for weeks.
Hunter, a two-way star, could play alongside Pro Bowler Brian Thomas Jr. at wide receiver. Along with adding young talent like Hunter, the Jaguars are hoping to solidify their roster for a competitive season ahead.
