FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ history with Deion Sanders spans decades. It began in 1995 when he signed Sanders, culminating in the Cowboys’ third Super Bowl victory under Jones.
When discussing Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, who saw his draft stock tumble from a projected top-five pick to undrafted status, Jones had much to say about his character and abilities. Despite leading college football with a 74% completion rate and earning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors, the narrative changed dramatically.
“First of all, I don’t want to make an evaluation, but we evaluated him extremely high in this draft. Now, obviously, we have Dak Prescott, the highest-paid player in the league,” stated Jones after Round 3. He elaborated on the strength of the Sanders family’s character, suggesting that it profoundly affects the sports landscape. Jones noted he’d be happy to support Sanders as a reference for any NFL team looking to draft him.
As it stands, with Prescott securing the starting quarterback position through a significant contract extension, Shedeur may not find a home with the Cowboys any time soon.
