Neymar Returns to Santos FC: A Comeback for the Former Barcelona and PSG Star
After a challenging stint in Saudi Arabia, Neymar is making a return to his first professional club, Santos FC, as he aims to revive his career in Brazil.
Neymar is headed back home after a disappointing season in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal. The Brazilian superstar is joining Santos, the club where he started his professional career from 2009 to 2013, as confirmed by club president Marcelo Teixeira on Instagram.
Tuesday night marked the end of Neymar’s time with Al-Hilal through a mutual agreement, paving the way for his return to South America. Santos even shared an AI-generated video featuring the late Pele to welcome him back.
Neymar’s Journey
During his previous stint at Santos, Neymar dazzled fans with his skillful play, helping the club secure major trophies, including the 2011 Copa Libertadores against Penarol, where he scored 136 goals in 225 matches. Unfortunately, his time in Saudi Arabia was marred by injuries, limiting him to just seven appearances across several months.
Neymar’s journey includes a world-record transfer to PSG in 2017 for around €220 million, where he scored 118 goals in 173 appearances before moving to Al-Hilal last year.
Injury struggles: Neymar was plagued by a severe knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a year, missing out on 48 games. His move back to Santos may offer a chance to rekindle his career and fulfill his potential once again.
