Tuomas Iisalo Appointed as Head Coach for the Grizzlies
Tuomas Iisalo has officially been named the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, following his tenure as interim coach during the last season.
Tuomas Iisalo has been elevated to the role of head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies after taking the reins in a challenging end to the previous season. Official announcements from the franchise confirmed this promotion on Friday. Details regarding the terms of his contract remain undisclosed.
Iisalo temporarily coached the Grizzlies from March 28 after a tough stretch that ended with a losing streak of five matches, which subsequently led to the dismissal of Taylor Jenkins, the most successful coach in the team’s history.
As a Finnish native, Iisalo concluded the regular season with a 4-5 record and participated in a play-in tournament, where Memphis secured the eighth seed despite facing Oklahoma City—a team they lost to in all four encounters.
Previously, Iisalo achieved success as the coach of Paris Basketball, where he won the EuroCup championship and earned the title of EuroCup Coach of the Year. His coaching background also includes five years with the Crailsheim Merlins in Germany.
Iisalo’s professional basketball career spanned 14 seasons in Finland.
