Teofimo Lopez Jr. reminded boxing fans of his exceptional pound-for-pound skills Friday night during his WBO junior welterweight title match against Arnold Barboza Jr. Lopez effectively utilized his speed, dominating throughout the fight and securing a unanimous decision with scores of 116-112 (twice) and 118-110. CBS Sports’ judges had it 117-111 in favor of Lopez.
“I’ve been telling myself this whole week that anything that is happening is happening for me and not against me,” Lopez stated after the match. “I felt great, I felt reborn. At 140, I have been at this weight for some time but we will talk about, me and my team, going up [in weight], maybe.”
Despite some challenges from Barboza, Lopez consistently outperformed, landing 126 punches to Barboza’s 70. After the match, he expressed enthusiasm about potentially moving up to welterweight to challenge Jarron ‘Boots’ Ennis, stating, “You know me guys, I go after the tough challenges. Definitely, Turki Alalshikh and everybody that has played a part in this, I want to see ‘Boots.’ Definitely.”
