Earlier this offseason, Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier stated the team and former All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey mutually agreed to explore trade options. “We decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward [separately],” Grier said last month.
Speculation was rife prior to the draft that Ramsey could be traded, but that did not come to pass. When a team openly states its intention to explore trade prospects, it’s reasonable to assume they will persist throughout the offseason.
One team interested in acquiring Ramsey is the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he is well acquainted. Ramsey was with the Rams before being traded to the Dolphins after the 2022 season for a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long.
Currently, the Rams are in need of assistance in their defensive backfield and have sufficient salary cap space to accommodate Ramsey, even if the Dolphins cover part of his salary.
Sean McVay, the Rams’ coach, commented on this potential reunion recently, stating:
“He is a total stud. He has continually played at a high level. We have kept in great contact even since we traded him to Miami. He is a special competitor, great person, and dedicated father.”
McVay continued, addressing aspects concerning the contract and compensation that would be necessary for a player of Ramsey’s magnitude. “Those conversations are ongoing, and we’re always looking for opportunities to enhance our competitiveness without neglecting the framework of such acquisitions.”
The Rams are known for their aggressive approach, often prioritizing immediate impact players over draft picks. However, the decision ultimately rests with the Dolphins regarding whether a deal will be finalized amidst ongoing discussions.
