Top Trade Options for De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings

Want a star point guard who’s entering the prime of his NBA career? De’Aaron Fox might be just the player for you.

The Sacramento Kings are reportedly open to trade offers for Fox, as the team is on the brink of playoff contention. Fox, now 27, has just over a year left on a five-year, $163 million contract with the Kings.

As a 2022-23 NBA All-Star, Fox is averaging 25.2 points, 6.2 assists, five rebounds, and 1.5 steals this season, with shooting percentages of 46.8% from the field, 32.4% from three-point range, and 82.6% from the free-throw line.

Here are three ideal trade destinations for Fox:

3. Houston Rockets

The Rockets are having a breakout season but seem to lack that extra boost needed for a deep playoff run. Fox could be the answer.

The left-handed point guard excels at scoring in isolation, shooting off the dribble, and facilitating. He would instantly become the main scorer for Houston, easing the scoring burden off Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Fox would join a similar roster setup as in Sacramento, where he would be the offensive focal point alongside an All-Star-caliber player.

Houston could offer Fred VanVleet, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore, as well as first and second-round draft picks to acquire Fox and Kevin Huerter in return.

However, the Rockets may opt to evaluate their current successful roster before making significant trades.

2. Utah Jazz

Since trading away Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Jazz have had a fluctuating roster. Acquiring Fox could assertively signal their intent to build a playoff-contending team again.

Lauri Markkanen has become a strong scorer but doesn’t provide enough firepower alone. Utah possesses enough young talent and draft capital to facilitate a substantial trade.

They could trade Collin Sexton, Taylor Hendricks, Drew Eubanks, and future first-round picks to acquire Fox.

1. San Antonio Spurs

Fox has reportedly shown interest in moving to the Spurs as it seems like a match made in basketball heaven. Alongside emerging superstar Victor Wembanyama, Fox would significantly enhance San Antonio’s offensive capabilities.

With both players able to contribute efficiently in scoring, Fox would not have to shoulder as much pressure as he does with the Kings. The Spurs could offer Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, Blake Wesley, and a couple of future first-round picks for Fox.

Fox is considered one of the elite players in the league, and he is still under 30. His career timeline aligns perfectly with that of the Spurs.
