Life comes at you fast. Just ask the rookies from six teams who participated in their first NFL practices one week after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Ravens, Cowboys, Packers, Chiefs, Eagles, and Seahawks each conducted rookie minicamps this past week. In Baltimore, the focus is on defense and the offensive line, areas emphasized throughout the draft. Meanwhile, in Dallas, a new era is beginning under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle has shifted gears at quarterback with the departure of Geno Smith and the signing of Sam Darnold to a multiyear contract. However, Jalen Milroe marked his presence during his inaugural practice with the team, displaying immediate progress.
Noteworthy themes emerged this offseason from these rookie minicamps, showcasing the strides rookie players are making across teams. Here are the main highlights:
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore’s rookie minicamp kicked off on Saturday, welcoming reporters on Sunday. Early expectations center on first-rounder Malaki Starks and second-rounder Mike Green to contribute immediately to the defense. Green’s prior performances, including a staggering 17 sacks last season, have made him a player to watch.
Dallas Cowboys
Amidst showcases of energy and rhythm from their new coaching staff, rookie running back Phil Mafah remarked, “The coaches have immense energy, enabling players to express themselves. We fuel each other’s excitement.”
Green Bay Packers
The camp highlighted first-round pick Matthew Golden’s number change, transitioning from No. 81 to No. 22 to honor his grandmother, who cherished the number 2. Meanwhile, offensive tackle Anthony Belton aims to improve his technique to prevent bull rushes during gameplay.
Kansas City Chiefs
First-round pick Josh Simmons is rehabilitation from a knee injury. He participated in some drills, focusing on mental preparation and playbook familiarity during the minicamp.
Philadelphia Eagles
Rookie Kyle McCord embarks on the journey with the Eagles, joining former recruiter Scot Loeffler. McCord emphasized the fortunate circumstances of reuniting with Loeffler: “It’s surreal to be playing under a coach I’ve known for so long.”
Seattle Seahawks
All attention was on Jalen Milroe, who is positioned to succeed under current team aspirations. He mentioned: “As I learn more about the playbook, efficiency as a passer will follow.”
Milroe’s eager anticipation to contribute was clear as he cheered for his teammates during the practice.
