New Members Join College Football Playoff Selection Committee

The College Football Playoff Management Committee announces the addition of Nebraska AD Troy Dannen and former administrator Jeff Long ahead of the upcoming season.

The College Football Playoff Management Committee has unveiled that Nebraska’s athletic director Troy Dannen and past administrator Jeff Long will join the selection committee for the approaching 2025 season. Dannen is stepping in for Damon Evans, who will now serve as the athletic director at SMU, while Long is returning temporarily in place of Steve Weiberg.

Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff, remarked, “We are pleased to have Troy and Jeff join the committee. Troy brings extensive experience in college athletics and prior service on the FCS Selection Committee, while Jeff’s background as the first chairman from 2014-15 will be invaluable.”

Long previously worked as an assistant coach from 1982 to 1987 and held athletic director positions at Pittsburgh, Arkansas, and Kansas from 2003 to 2021, significantly influencing the initial years of the College Football Playoff. Besides his role as the inaugural chairman, he contributed to the selection committee until 2018.

Dannen is in his second year as Nebraska’s athletic director. He began at his alma mater, Northern Iowa, from 2008 to 2015, then moved to Tulane until 2023, where he facilitated the Huskies’ entry into the College Football Playoff National Championship.
