LeBron James Cancels Met Gala Appearance Due to Knee Injury

LeBron James will not attend the Met Gala following a sprained MCL during the NBA playoffs, missing out on his representation at the star-studded event.

The troubles continue for the Los Angeles Lakers. After suffering a first-round loss in the NBA playoffs to the lower-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron James incurred a knee sprain in Game 5, which could have kept him sidelined for some postseason games if they progressed.

Now the Lakers will be without their representative at the Met Gala, following that same injury. James took to social media on Monday, just before the event, to announce his absence due to his injury.

He sprained his MCL during the fourth quarter of last week’s 103-96 defeat but managed to finish the game for the final 7:23. However, medical evaluations showed that the injury was more serious than anticipated, potentially ending James’s impressive streak of 292 consecutive postseason games played throughout his career, had there been a Game 6.

Fortunately for fans, James’s family will still be present at the Met Gala, but not by Bronny James. In recent years, a growing number of athletes have received prestigious invites to the gala, especially with Lewis Hamilton co-chairing this year’s event, a role James was set to fulfill as an honorary chair. The Met Gala has also announced members of its host committee, including Angel Reese, and Olympic champions Simone Biles and Sha’Carri Richardson.
