Utah Jazz Signs Will Hardy to Contract Extension Through 2031

The Utah Jazz extends head coach Will Hardy's contract, solidifying his position through the team's ongoing rebuilding process.

Will Hardy is set to continue his work with the Utah Jazz after the franchise announced that he signed a contract extension, potentially keeping him as head coach through the 2030-31 season. Hardy enters his fourth season with the Jazz next fall.

“Will’s leadership has been invaluable to our program,” said Jazz CEO Danny Ainge. “He has established a vision for our players and a strong foundation of core values, competitive habits, and growth mindset. He is one of the brightest young coaches in our league, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him.”

In Hardy’s first three seasons with the Jazz, he has a record of 85-161, notably missing the playoffs each year. Utah’s performance dipped significantly this past season, recording only 17 wins, which is the lowest in franchise history.

The Jazz have a young roster, as they did not feature any players older than 27 in the last weeks of the season, and the extension signifies the team’s satisfaction with how Hardy has overseen the rebuilding.

“I love Utah and the Jazz organization and am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue to help guide our team,” Hardy expressed. “I believe in what we are building. We have a talented group of coaches and people all working to build a championship program for this incredible fan base.”

For the upcoming offseason, the Jazz have four draft picks, including two in the first round, and they hold a 14% chance of winning the lottery to acquire Duke freshman Cooper Flagg.

Additionally, their financial outlook appears promising due to expiring contracts, leaving only one player, Lauri Markkanen, with a salary exceeding $30 million next season.

“Will is an incredible leader, great communicator — especially with our younger players — and a strong ambassador for this franchise,” said Jazz governor Ryan Smith.
