President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, as the executive director of the World Cup task force. Additionally, Carlos Cordeiro, who previously served as the president of U.S. Soccer, will take on the role of senior advisor.
Giuliani, who was employed as a special assistant during Trump’s first term, and Cordeiro, who played a pivotal role in securing the hosting rights for the 2026 World Cup, are set to lead efforts aimed at ensuring the tournament’s success. As per Trump’s executive order issued earlier in March, he will chair the task force while Vice President J.D. Vance will serve as vice chair, with several cabinet members included as part of the team.
“Our goal is to facilitate the largest and most outstanding soccer tournament ever,” Trump stated during a meeting at the White House. FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino estimates that around 10 million attendees are expected for the event, which marks a historic increase to 48 participating teams.
Additionally, in a task force meeting, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that provisions will be made for managing travelers’ documentation efficiently, while a note of caution was issued regarding visa overstays. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy advised potential visitors, “If you want to watch some soccer, make a road trip across America. However, be mindful not to overstay your visa.”
