Challenge Issued to Timberwolves' Star Anthony Edwards After Game 1 Defeat
Head coach Chris Finch urges star player Anthony Edwards to set the tone for the Timberwolves after their tough loss to the Warriors.
The Minnesota Timberwolves faced a disappointing 99-88 defeat against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, despite Stephen Curry leaving the match because of a hamstring strain. After the match, Coach Chris Finch expressed his concerns regarding Anthony Edwards’ performance.
“It starts with Ant,” Finch stated. “I thought he struggled, and you could just see the light go out a little bit at times.”
Finch added, “You’re the leader of the team and you’ve got to come out and set the tone.”
Edwards managed to score 23 points but struggled on the shooting front, going 9 of 22 from the field and missing his first ten attempts. He finally made a field goal four minutes into the third quarter.
“What is there to talk about? You’re the leader of the team,” Finch reiterated. “You have to carry the energy even if your shot isn’t falling. If I have to remind guys about the right energy coming into a second-round playoff opener, then we’re not aligned.”
Edwards’ shooting woes extend back to their previous series against the Los Angeles Lakers, where he shot poorly but made notable contributions in other areas. The Timberwolves will need a sharper performance from Edwards in the upcoming games against the Warriors.
