Grading the Trade
The Dallas Cowboys have successfully negotiated a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire star wide receiver George Pickens. In exchange, the Cowboys will send a third-round pick to Pittsburgh and make a swap of lesser picks. This move comes after Dallas did not select a wide receiver in the recent NFL Draft, leaving CeeDee Lamb without a sufficient partner.
With their wide receiver corps lacking depth beyond Lamb, the Cowboys have made a significant upgrade. Last season, Pickens recorded 59 receptions for 900 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating his potential as a top talent whose best days are ahead of him.
Trade Details:
Cowboys receive: WR George Pickens, a 2027 sixth-round pick
Steelers receive: 2026 third-round pick, 2027 fifth-round pick

At 6'3" and 200 pounds, Pickens adds a formidable presence that is expected to complement Lamb and increase the potency of the offense. This trade represents a step towards building a competitive team, particularly under the management of Jerry Jones. However, concerns linger about Pickens’ behavioral issues and the short time left on his rookie contract, making the outcome of this trade heavily dependent on his performance this season.
Steelers: B-
While the Steelers did secure an outstanding talent in DK Metcalf this offseason, trading away Pickens raises eyebrows. If told Pickens would be dealt for just a third-round pick, it would be disheartening for fans given his past promise. Pickens showcased explosive playmaking abilities but was marred by inconsistent quarterback performance and his own penalties.
