Giancarlo Stanton of the New York Yankees has expressed optimism about returning to action before the end of May. Having been sidelined due to elbow tendinitis affecting both arms, he is not eligible for activation until May 27.
Stanton previously contemplated the possibility of season-ending surgery but is now hopeful that a long rehabilitation period will be unnecessary, stating:
“It depends on what kind of arms I get available for live batting practice sessions, and how I feel in those at-bats.”
Translation: “Es depende de qué tipo de brazos tenga disponibles para las sesiones de práctica de bateo en vivo, y cómo me sienta en esos turnos al bate.”
Last season, Stanton contributed significantly with a batting average of .233 along with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs. In the postseason, he excelled with a .273 batting average and seven home runs in 14 games. The Yankees, currently leading the AL East with a 20-16 record, have relied on Ben Rice for designated hitter duties in Stanton’s absence, with Rice appearing 24 times in the role across 36 games. Other players have also stepped up, helping maintain a league-high OPS at the designated hitter position.
