Tragic Car Accident Claims Life of Austin Peay Football Player

William Hardrick, a senior defensive back at Austin Peay, tragically died in a highway crash at the age of 22.

William Hardrick, a 22-year-old senior defensive back at Austin Peay State University, tragically died in a highway accident on I-65 in Alabama. Hardrick was traveling southbound when his vehicle veered off the road, crashed into a fence, and flipped over, resulting in his death at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency arrested 31-year-old John Walter McAdams and charged him with murder, multiple counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and driving under the influence. Reports indicate that McAdams’ blood alcohol level was 0.09%, slightly exceeding the legal limit.

Court records accuse McAdams of engaging in reckless behavior that severely threatened lives, leading to Hardrick’s demise.

Originally from Adamsville and a former Minor High School football player, Hardrick transferred to Austin Peay from Mississippi State after participating in 18 games at Miami (Ohio), where he made significant contributions to his team’s defense.

In the wake of this tragedy, Austin Peay expressed its condolences, with Vice President Gerald Harrison stating, “We are truly saddened by the passing of William Hardrick.” Jeff Faris, the football coach, also reflected on Hardrick’s impact, emphasizing his inspirational presence on the team.

The crash is currently under investigation by law enforcement.
