Stephen Curry Emphasizes Need for Patience in Recovery from Hamstring Injury
Warriors guard Stephen Curry discusses the challenges posed by his hamstring strain, emphasizing the importance of waiting for recovery before returning to play.
Stephen Curry sat down after the Golden State Warriors’ gameday shootaround in Minneapolis on Thursday, expressing he felt fine. However, that wasn’t entirely true; he later clarified, “Sarcasm” to ensure people caught the joke.
Curry will be sidelined for at least a few games due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain that forced him to exit most of Game 1 in the Warriors’ Western Conference semi-final series on Tuesday. This injury will keep him out not just for Game 2 but likely for Games 3 and 4 as well.
Currently, Curry is with the team but is not permitted to engage in any basketball activities, including even stationary shooting. He is unclear about the cause of his strain, as he has never faced significant hamstring issues previously.
“It’s hard to really predict this stuff is what I’m learning,” Curry mentioned. “There were no warning signs or weird feelings. I felt great the whole game until a pivot move on defense caused the problem.”
Can the Warriors Succeed Without Stephen Curry?
Curry initially thought he could rejoin the game but soon realized that wasn’t feasible. Playing through the strain would only exacerbate the issue, he said, stressing that hamstrings require ample recovery time, regardless of the rehab regimen.
“Obviously, a tough break,” Curry lamented. “Hopefully, I’ll be back soon.”
In Game 1, he scored 13 points in 13 minutes before leaving in the second quarter, as Golden State secured a 99-88 victory. Teammates Buddy Hield, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green collectively contributed 62 points, while the Wolverines were restricted to a mere 5-for-29 from beyond the arc and just 60 points through three quarters.
“We maintain confidence that we can still win the series and that others will step up, irrespective of the circumstances,” Curry stated. “It’s a situation where I want to think positively and hopefully find myself ready to play safely in the next round.”
Curry is leading his team with an average of 22 points in this year’s playoffs.
