Can the Cavaliers Overcome a 3-1 Deficit Against the Pacers?

The Cleveland Cavaliers face a tough challenge in their playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, needing three consecutive wins to advance.

If you are feeling optimistic in Cleveland, you might recall the miraculous comeback of 2016. The Cleveland Cavaliers have a rare history of bouncing back from a 3-1 deficit, notably achieving this against the Golden State Warriors, who had a remarkable 73-win season.

However, the current situation seems complicated. The fate of the series depends significantly on the ankle injury suffered by Donovan Mitchell during Game 4. Mitchell had been averaging an impressive 41.3 points per game in the series and was the Cavaliers’ primary beacon of hope.

With Mitchell injured, the Cavaliers face significant challenges. Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen are also experiencing injuries, causing frustration and affecting their performance. Adding to their woes, a recent altercation involving De’Andre Hunter and Benedict Mathurin underscores the Cavaliers’ mental strain.

The shooting performance has dramatically varied; as of now, while the Pacers are successfully making 44.8% of their shots, the Cavaliers have plummeted to 31% from their previous 39.3%. This disparity can largely be attributed to luck and defense.

Cleveland still has the advantage of two home games left, and if Mitchell is fit to play, they could potentially reclaim their footing. Yet, to advance in this series, the team must regain their form that marked their successful regular season.
