Fantasy Baseball Waiver-Wire Insights: Target Jake Burger This Week

With Jake Burger set to return, fantasy managers may want to reconsider their approach ahead of Week 8.

Getting sent down to the minors in the first month of the season is almost the worst-case scenario for a player drafted in the first 10 rounds of a Fantasy Baseball league, exemplified by Jake Burger. Burger, the Rangers’ major offseason acquisition, struggled early on, hitting just .190/.231/.330 in his first 30 games, leading to a demotion to Triple-A last week.

As a result, fantasy players dropped him significantly, causing his roster rate to plummet below 50%. However, he might be worth picking up again. Reports indicate from The Dallas Morning News that Burger could rejoin the Rangers lineup as early as Monday. Manager Bruce Bochy expressed optimism about his readiness, saying: “I think we are hoping he’s going to be ready to go then. He’s getting better swings off. He’s looking good there. We’re comfortable with where he is at.”

While it’s understandable that some fantasy players are hesitant given his slow start, it’s important to remember that such streaky players offer substantial upside when locked in. With Burger available for minimal acquisition costs, this could be a timely opportunity.

Week 8 Waiver Targets

Catchers

  • Ivan Herrera, Cardinals (69%) – On the mend from injury, he should be 100% rostered. He has performed admirably since his return with promising potential.

First Base

  • Colt Keith, Tigers (36%) – Despite a rough start, his recent performance suggests he could contribute positively.

Outfield

Assessing the situations of such players, particularly those like Burger, can pay off well in Fantasy formats.
