The NBA is currently amid the playoffs, but eliminated teams are still keenly involved. On Monday, the league will execute its Draft Lottery in Chicago, determining who will gain the top selections for June’s NBA Draft.
As customary, a set of 14 ping pong balls will be placed within a lottery machine bearing numbers one to fourteen. After a random selection, four balls will be drawn. There are a total of 1,001 possible combinations, each linked to specific teams depending on their regular season performance during the 2024-25 season, designed to establish who secures the initial picks. The same process is repeated to award positions for subsequent picks.
Ultimately, the ensuing ordering will adhere to team records, with selections 5-14 belonging to non-playoff franchises, while the playoff teams select from positions 15-30. The second round entirely relies on prior performance records, albeit with some uncertainties regarding the rankings of tied teams.
