Tanner Houck, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, made a negative mark in franchise history on Monday night, giving up 11 earned runs against the Detroit Tigers (GameTracker).
In this game, Houck became the first Red Sox pitcher to allow 10 or more earned runs in multiple games during a single season since the integration of Major League Baseball. Pulled from the game in the third inning, he gave up nine runs primarily in that inning, which included notable hits such as a little league home run from Riley Greene and a traditional three-run homer by Trey Sweeney, with an error contributing to the score by right fielder Wilyer Abreu.

Houck’s previous poor performance occurred on April 14 when he allowed 12 runs (11 earned) against the Tampa Bay Rays, marking the worst outing by a Red Sox pitcher in over 60 years.
This outing marks Houck’s ongoing struggles, as he posted a 6.10 ERA across his first eight starts this season. However, his performance had seen improvement temporarily after the Rays debacle with a 3.57 ERA in his following appearances, though this latest outing may reverse any progress made.
As of now, the Red Sox hold a 22-20 record, placing them second in the American League East.
