The Mavericks Land First Ever No. 1 Pick After Coin Toss Victory
Dallas Mavericks secure the top pick in the NBA Draft for the first time, thanks to a crucial coin flip with the Chicago Bulls.
A thrilling season for the Mavericks culminated on Monday when Dallas received the No. 1 overall pick for the first time during the NBA Draft Lottery held in Chicago.
Luck played a significant role in the Mavericks’ success, beginning long before the draft balls were drawn.
Last month, the Mavericks (39-43) won a pivotal coin flip against the Chicago Bulls (39-43), securing a slight 1.8% chance to win the lottery compared to the Bulls’ 1.7%.
Despite the seemingly minor difference, this proved crucial as the Bulls ended up with the No. 12 pick on draft night.
Dallas now has the chance to select the consensus No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg, who recorded averages of 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game during his freshman year at Duke.
The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft is set to occur on June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
