Giannis Antetokounmpo Considering Future with Bucks Amid Trade Rumors

Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly open to the idea of leaving the Milwaukee Bucks as trade rumors intensify following their playoff exit and a key injury to star teammate Damian Lillard.

Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn’t made a trade request yet, but he might consider it in the coming months. For the first time, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar is contemplating if his current team is the best option for him, as reported by ESPN.

Trade speculation around Antetokounmpo intensified after the Bucks’ playoff exit at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. This was the third consecutive year the Bucks faced first-round elimination, exacerbated by a serious injury to star guard Damian Lillard, who tore his Achilles during Game 4, potentially sidelining him for the complete 2025-26 season.

Antetokounmpo and his agents are expected to engage with Bucks management this offseason, with other teams reportedly increasing their efforts to inquire about a potential trade involving the two-time MVP.

Even though the Bucks have struggled to contend for titles since their championship in 2021, Antetokounmpo continues to be a dominant player in the league, expected to secure first-team All-NBA honors for the seventh consecutive season, averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and matching his career-high in assists at 6.5, alongside 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals per game while shooting an impressive 60.1% from the field.

As Antetokounmpo maintains his high performance level, the supporting cast has been in flux, with significant trades impacting their roster since winning the championship. They traded away Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, and several draft picks shortly before the 2023-24 season began. Following injuries to former All-Star Khris Middleton, they shifted him and other players in a complex trade to acquire Kyle Kuzma, Jericho Sims, and additional picks.

The Bucks currently have only seven players under contract for the upcoming season, but they find themselves limited in options, sitting just $28.2 million below the luxury tax threshold. Key players including Brook Lopez and Gary Trent Jr. are facing free agency, while others have player options that could affect the team’s depth moving forward.

Ultimately, should Antetokounmpo decide to leave, he is poised to attract one of the biggest trade packages in recent memory, as teams across the league would vie for the services of a two-time MVP in his prime. The Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs have already emerged as potential favorites for landing him, should he choose a fresh start away from Milwaukee.
