Alex Morgan to Invest in NWSL's San Diego Wave After Retirement Announcement

Soccer star Alex Morgan returns to the National Women's Soccer League as a minority investor with the San Diego Wave, following her retirement announcement last year.

Former U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan is expanding her investment portfolio by becoming a minority investor in her previous team, the San Diego Wave FC. The club announced Morgan’s involvement on Tuesday, marking her return to the league after she announced her retirement last season alongside the news of her pregnancy. This significant move reinforces Morgan’s commitment to supporting women’s sports both on and off the field.

Morgan stated, “San Diego is where I’ve built my home, where I am raising my children, and found a purpose beyond my playing career. I believed in Wave FC before a single match was played, and I still believe this Club has the power to change the future of women’s sports. I’m proud to invest in that future and not just as a player, but now as an investor.”

During her time with the Wave, Morgan set records as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 28 goals and 11 assists. She was instrumental in the team reaching the playoffs and securing the 2023 NWSL Shield. Morgan’s impressive legacy includes over 300 appearances for the U.S. National Team, placing her among the top scorers in the team’s history.

Since retiring, she has focused on advocacy for women’s sports and entrepreneurship, founding media ventures and initiatives that promote equity in sports.
