Neymar Set to Return to Santos: 'Only My Childhood Club Can Offer Me the Affection I Seek'

Neymar has announced his return to Santos, aiming to revive his career ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Neymar has confirmed his intention to sign a short-term contract with his childhood club, Santos, as he looks to rejuvenate his career leading up to the 2026 World Cup. The 32-year-old striker announced on Thursday his return to the São Paulo club, with local sources indicating the agreement will last until June 30.

“Only Santos can give me the love that I need to prepare for the challenges I have in the next few years. All of you, no matter who you support, know well what I am talking about,” Neymar expressed on his social media channels. “I hope you all follow me in this new phase of my life.”

Santos responded to Neymar’s video with a message: “Your home awaits. Your people await.” Neymar left Santos nearly twelve years ago to join Barcelona.

This return follows the termination of his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, after a brief stint marred by injury and limited gameplay. Neymar had returned in October from a serious ACL injury incurred while playing for Brazil and managed to play only seven matches for Al-Hilal, scoring once.

His departure from Paris Saint-Germain was similarly speculative, as fans criticized him for his fitness levels. Neymar highlighted that he hopes to secure more playing time in preparation for the World Cup in North America, which may be his last opportunity to clinch the title.

Additionally, a Santos official mentioned that Neymar is expected to arrive at São Paulo’s international airport at 9 a.m. on Friday, before heading to the club’s Vila Belmiro Stadium for his contract signing and subsequent fan introduction.

Neymar, who has played 225 matches and scored 138 goals for Santos previously, now embarks on this new chapter to feel a sense of belonging once again as he aims for future achievements.
