Timberwolves Extend Lead in Series Against Warriors with Curry Out

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the Golden State Warriors and take a 3-1 playoff series lead with key performances from Edwards and Randle.

Anthony Edwards scored 30 points for the second consecutive game, and Julius Randle added 31, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 117-110 victory over the Golden State Warriors Monday night. With this win, the Timberwolves now hold a 3-1 series lead in their Western Conference playoff matchup.

The Timberwolves are heading back to Minneapolis, where they have an opportunity to clinch the best-of-seven series in Game 5 on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors were missing their star player, Stephen Curry, for the third straight game as he is set to have his strained left hamstring evaluated. Edwards helped propel the team to success with a crucial run, scoring 11 points during a 17-0 stretch that pushed Minnesota ahead 85-68 late in the third quarter. They entered the final period leading 97-77, which the Warriors couldn’t overcome.

Despite the Timberwolves trailing at halftime, Edwards managed to hit a deep 30-foot 3-pointer right before the second quarter ended to pull the score closer, finishing the half at 60-58.

Jonathan Kuminga from the Warriors came off the bench to contribute 23 points, including 11 of his 12 free throw attempts, but it wasn’t enough for his team. Other contributions included Jaden McDaniels who recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota.

Earlier in the game, Buddy Hield had a brief injury scare, but it was deemed a common foul after review, allowing the game to continue.

The Warriors are now facing their third loss in a row since Curry was injured at the start of the playoff series last Tuesday. If his recovery goes smoothly, he could potentially return for a possible Game 6 back at Chase Center on Sunday.

Minnesota has concentrated their defensive efforts on limiting the Warriors’ typical strong 3-point shooting, resulting in Golden State hitting only 8 out of 27 attempts from behind the arc.
