The Los Angeles Dodgers have promoted catcher prospect Dalton Rushing, the team announced on Wednesday. To create an active roster spot, they designated backup catcher Austin Barnes for assignment. Barnes has been a key player for the Dodgers since 2015.
Rushing, age 24, has had an impressive start this season with the Triple-A Oklahoma City team, batting .308/.424/.514 with five home runs and 21 walks in 31 games. His minor league career statistics show a .277/.412/.519 batting line across four seasons.
According to CBS Sports, Rushing was ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect and the top talent in the Dodgers’ robust system. The evaluation from R.J. Anderson highlighted Rushing’s adaptability, noting he started in left field after playing primarily as a backstop. His strong at-bats are indicative of a promising future in Major League Baseball, and he’s expected to make an impact this season.
As the defending champion, the Dodgers currently hold a record of 27-15, placing them half a game ahead of the San Diego Padres in the competitive National League West.
