Pro Football Hall of Famer Charles Woodson is returning to the NFL. According to The Athletic, Woodson will buy a 0.1% ownership stake in the Cleveland Browns from majority owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, contingent on him accepting broadcast restrictions, similar to those faced by Tom Brady, who owns part of the Las Vegas Raiders while being an analyst for Fox. Woodson himself is also an analyst for NFL and college football on Fox.
Woodson, who grew up in Fremont, Ohio—about 85 miles from Cleveland—was a standout at Ross High School and later at the University of Michigan, where he won the Heisman Trophy while playing both offense and defense before being the No. 4 overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. Over an 18-year NFL career, he played 11 seasons with the Oakland Raiders and 7 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He collected 65 interceptions and is considered one of the best defensive backs in NFL history. His accolades include NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (1998), Defensive Player of the Year (2009), and numerous Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections.
Woodson entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 on his first eligibility attempt.
