Car Drives into Crowd Outside Barcelona Match, Eight Injured

An incident outside the Espanyol vs Barcelona game left several injured as a car plowed into a crowd of supporters.

At least eight individuals suffered minor injuries when a car crashed into a crowd outside the Barcelona vs Espanyol match on Thursday, which was described by local authorities as an accident.

During the early stages of the match at RCDE Stadium, a vehicle intruded into a group of fans. Attendees inside the stadium alerted the referee to the situation, with some spectators yelling to Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia to get the referee’s attention. Fans even intervened between the advertising boards and the pitch to inform Garcia, successfully pausing the game. Those who interrupted the match were later escorted out by security.

All reports suggest that the injuries were minor. Salvador Ilia, the president of the Catalan government, affirmed that this was not a planned attack. Local authorities assured that there was no ongoing threat to anyone inside RCDE Stadium.

Barcelona ultimately secured a 2-0 victory in this match, with the decisive goal scored by Lamine Yamal, marking their championship win in La Liga.
