Tiger Woods' Absence from the 2025 PGA Championship Explained

Tiger Woods will miss the 2025 PGA Championship as he continues recovery from a ruptured Achilles injury sustained earlier this year.

Tiger Woods will not participate in the 2025 PGA Championship, marking the third occasion in five years that the golf legend has been unable to play in this prominent tournament at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. Having suffered a ruptured Achilles in March, Woods is currently focusing on recovery, as he revealed during the Players Championship.

In 2024, he missed the cut at Valhalla, and previously sat out the 2021 and 2023 competitions, as well as withdrawing from the event in 2022. Unfortunately, this continues a troubling trend of missed major tournaments due to injuries that have plagued Woods over the last five years.

Woods previously staged a strong comeback in his early 40s, securing his 15th major at the 2019 Masters. However, after a serious car accident in early 2021 necessitated a year-long rehabilitation for a severe leg injury, Woods has only participated in a mere ten official PGA Tour events since then.

Earlier this year, he participated in TGL and was gradually gearing up for real competition when he sustained his recent injury. Updates regarding Woods’ recovery and future plans have been generally positive, as shared by his close friend, Fred Couples, but he remains distant from returning to action on the course.

Tiger is keen to return to competitive golf, having dominated the majors for over a decade, but the spotlight at Quail Hollow will instead shine on the upcoming talents, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Bryson DeChambeau, who are ready to contend for the Wanamaker Trophy.
